Minister of Trade and Industry, Endrit Shala, along with Kosovo Police Director Reshat Qalaj have inaugurated two laboratories of the Kosovo Metrology Agency.
Minister Shala said that from now on the Kosovo Police equipment will be calibrated in state institutions.
“Given the importance of traffic safety, the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Kosovo Metrology Agency have completed the equipment of two laboratories for the verification of speed meters and alcometers, both of which are used by the Kosovo Police will be calibrated by the Kosovo Metrology Agency. Citizens of the country are assured that from now on these devices will be calibrated in the Republic of Kosovo”, said Minister Shala.
He announced that this is another action in the context of consumer protection and now the Kosovo Police will be even more precise, because the equipment used by them will be calibrated.
"With this action, today we are once again proving the political and institutional readiness to increase the level of enforcement of the law, in order to increase the safety on the roads of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as to increase transparency and accountability to all drivers of the vehicles in the Republic of Kosovo ”, said Minister Shala.
Whereas, the Chief Executive Officer of the Metrology Agency, Ferki Fejza, said that these two laboratories affect the daily work of the police and increase the reliability of measurements in litigation.
"Because the measurements performed by the Metrology Agency are professional and are sophisticated laboratories, complete with modern infrastructure," said Fejza.
Kosovo Police Director Reshat Qalaj said that the police from now one will use state institutions to calibrate their equipment.
“In the past and also today we are still working with calibrated and tested instruments, but we have used the services of contracted private operators. Now these services will take place in state institutions and of course at a much cheaper cost”, said Qalaj.
