The Minister of Trade and Industry, Vesel Krasniqi, received in a meeting the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Nehat Ramadani, the heads of the Food and Veterinary Agency, representatives of the Association of Dairy Processors and representatives of dairy producers.
In this meeting it was discussed about the problems that are facing dairy producers and processors as a result of the pandemic.
At the meeting, the Government of Kosovo was asked to make a solution due to the accumulated amount of cheese, to ban palm oil and to separate vegetable and animal dairy products, etc.
Minister Krasniqi has expressed his readiness to support their requests and to find a solution as soon as possible.
The minister asked for accurate data on the cheese stocks and the capacity of local producers to meet market demand in order to consider the possibility of a decision that would be a solution for local producers.
"I am very interested and I am committed to help them by offering solutions with institutional decisions, so that local producers feel the helping hand of the state. But it must be said that in order that minister's decision becomes sustainable, every decision taken must have a rationale, and a legal basis. Thus, I am asking you to provide accurate data on how much is in stock, how much is the consumption and how much is daily production? "If we do not have data on our production capacity, we cannot make decisions, which can then cause us more trouble."
As for the request for finding a solution for the stocks, the minister has promised to make a request to all public institutions to be supplied with local dairy products – this as an additional assistance to local producers.
The Deputy Minister of MAFRD, Nehat Ramadani, also agreed with the Minister, requesting accurate data from the representatives of the associations present.
Whereas, the leaders of the Food and Veterinary Agency, spoke mainly about the quality of products.
