Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade (MIET), through the Kosovo Metrology Agency (KMA), conducted regular supervision action of taximeter measuring instruments

The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade (MIET), through the Kosovo Metrology Agency (KMA) and in cooperation with the Kosovo Police, has carried out field supervision of the legal measuring instruments of taximeters that are placed in auto-taxis.

The supervision was conducted in several cities of Kosovo and will continue in the coming days, aiming at consumer protection and supervision of bodies (CABs) appointed by MIET/KMA for taximeters, tasked with the implementation of legal metrology regulations.

According to the legislation in force, taximeters in use must be in full compliance with Regulation No. 06/2016 and according to Regulation No. 01/2022 amending Regulation No. 02/2021 on legally controlled measuring tools, their accuracy must be verified. The taximeter calculates the distance based on the signal provided by the distance signal generator. In addition, it calculates and displays the fare payable for the trip based on the calculated/measured distance of the trip.

During the supervision of these measuring tools by the metrological supervision inspectors, the documentation verification was done, as specified in the metrology law and the relevant regulations for their implementation, in order to ensure the correct use of the legal measuring tools of the taximeters that are installed in taxi vehicles, which are subject to legal metrological control.

During the inspection by the inspectors and metrological supervision, taximeters were encountered which did not possess a verification certificate, where administrative measures were taken according to the Law on Metrology.

After the on-site inspection visit, the MIET/KMA announces that if the irregularities found are not eliminated within the specified period, measures will be taken in accordance with the law in force.

The inspection of taximeters by metrological supervision inspectors will continue in the following days in the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo to ensure protection of consumers and travelers.
