MINT Inspectorate Confiscates 45 kg of Gold in Peja

The Central Inspectorate for Market Surveillance (IQMT), in close coordination with the State Prosecutor’s Office in Peja, the Kosovo Police and Kosovo Customs – Anti-Smuggling Unit, carried out today a large-scale inspection action targeting economic operators engaged in the trade of precious metals in the Region of Peja.

The purpose of this operation was to verify the legality of trade, the origin of precious metals, and compliance with technical standards in accordance with the legislation in force in the Republic of Kosovo.

During detailed on-site inspections, market inspectors and officials of the participating institutions identified violations which resulted in the following measures:

-Temporary prohibition of goods

IQMT identified and prohibited a quantity of over 20 kg of gold, which was unverified and unmarked by the Kosovo Metrology Agency. This merchandise shall remain blocked until the completion of regular legal procedures.

-Seizure of precious metals

During this action, more than 25 kg of precious metal items – gold – were seized, for which the economic operators failed to present the necessary documentation regarding their origin.The Central Inspectorate for Market Surveillance remains committed to protecting consumers and ensuring a fair and legal market. Trading in precious metals without marking by the Kosovo Metrology Agency and without proper documentation constitutes a serious and punishable violation. IQMT warns all economic operators that inspections will continue with increased intensity throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo, and any irregularities shall be subject to rigorous punitive measures in accordance with the applicable legislation.
