Minister Kusari-Lila Signs the Initiation of the Procedure for the Draft Law on Temporary Measures for Essential Products

The Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, has signed the initiation of the procedure for the Draft Law on Temporary Measures for Essential Products in the event of economic crises (Price Cap Law).

The Minister described this step as necessary for consumer protection.“Following the approval of the legislative agenda in the Government of Kosovo, and taking into account the importance of this draft law and the promise of Prime Minister Kurti for its approval at the beginning of the new mandat, today I signed the initiation of the procedure for the Draft Law on Temporary Measures for Essential Products in the event of economic crises (Price Cap Law).

This is a necessary step to protect consumers and to ensure market stability,” stated Minister Kusari-Lila. According to her, this draft law creates the legal basis for swift and fair intervention when facing unexpected price increases, shortages of essential products, and disruptions in supply.

“The goal is not arbitrary intervention in the market, but the protection of citizens from abuse and speculation during times of crisis. The measures are temporary, proportionate, and aimed at preserving economic stability,” the Minister emphasized.

The Minister also stated that the previous remarks of the Constitutional Court will be addressed, and that a stronger, more sustainable, and legally solid framework will be established. “In a period when inflation has affected every family, the state must guarantee a balance between the free market and the public interest,” emphasized Minister Kusari-Lila.
