The Industrial Property Agency marks progress in the modernization and efficiency of the industrial property system

During 2026, the Industrial Property Agency (IPA) made significant progress in the modernization, efficiency, and institutional strengthening of the industrial property system in Kosovo.

One of the Agency’s key achievements was the substantial reduction in trademark registration time, achieving, for the first time, the registration of a trademark within just seven months; this timeframe encompassed all legal procedural stages as well as the mandatory three-month publication period in the Bulletin.

This result reflects increased efficiency in processing applications, alongside the accelerated review of oppositions and the handling of cases carried over from previous periods.

In parallel, the IPA advanced the modernization of industrial property administration by successfully transitioning to IPAS 4.0, launching a new electronic register via WIPO Publish, and unveiling a new official website, thereby improving access to data, information, and services.

Internationally, IPA has strengthened professional cooperation through an agreement with the Austrian Patent Office, enabling state-of-the-art searches and professional opinions on patents, and through active participation in the EU4IP 2026–2028 regional project, which supports capacity building and alignment with European standards.

During the year, a total of 1,734 industrial property items were registered, 5,104 industrial property items were published across nine official bulletins, and 6,227 documents were processed as part of official communication with parties.

The professional publication “Trademarks in Kosovo” also makes a significant contribution to strengthening legal certainty; it systematizes the agency’s decision-making practice and helps enhance the consistency and predictability of decisions.

During this period, there has also been a notable increase in promotional and awareness-raising activities involving businesses, startups, universities, schools, and innovation centres.
