Today, the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Kosovo and the EFTA states – Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein officially entered into force. On the occasion of the entry into force of the agreement, the first product from the company Greenhouse, a modular house, was dispatched for export to the EFTA markets from the terminal of the Dheu i Bardhë border crossing point.
The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, Jeton Mehmeti, who wished Kosovo businesses continued success and expressed that he expects that more and more “Made in Kosova” products would find their way into EFTA markets, while creating new partnerships at the same time.
The entry into force of this agreement constitutes an important step for the economy of Kosovo and, in particular, for local businesses, as it creates new opportunities for increasing exports of goods and services, expanding the presence of Kosovo products in these markets and further strengthening the trade balance with the EFTA states.
For industrial products, Kosovo exporters will benefit from the full liberalization of customs tariffs, while exports of a considerable number of agricultural products will benefit from reduced or zero tariffs, as well as preferential quotas, according to the conditions determined by each EFTA state. The agreement also creates opportunities for increasing the export of services, through more favourable market access and the facilities provided for this sector.
The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation will continue implementing the Agreement and providing concrete information and clarifications for businesses, with the aim of making the most of the new trade opportunities and increasing exports to the EFTA markets.
Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland constitute markets with high purchasing power and potential for products and services from Kosovo. During 2025, Kosovo exported over 100.4 million euros to the EFTA countries, while it imported around 53 million euros, recording a positive trade balance of 47.4 million euros in favour of Kosovo. Of the total exports to these markets, around 99.4 million euros were exports to Switzerland.
