656 inspections, 15 fines, 7 court cases and 231 products seized – CIMS strengthens market surveillance during September

During September 2026, the Central Inspectorate of Market Surveillance (CIMS) intensified its market surveillance and inspection activities, carrying out a total of 656 inspections in various areas, including the supervision of petroleum and petroleum products, general product safety, market consumption supervision, minimum technical conditions and metrological supervision.

As a result of the inspections carried out, 15 fines were imposed for various violations, while 7 cases were also initiated before the competent courts for misdemeanour violations identified during the inspections. As part of the measures undertaken, a total of 231 products were seized, including children’s toys, work helmets, extension cables, adapters, chargers, electrical equipment, electronic cigarettes and other products that were subject to inspection controls.

Particular attention during September was also paid to consumer protection. The Consumer Protection Department received a total of 294 complaints, representing an increase of 144 complaints compared to the same period of the previous year. Most of the complaints concerned online purchases, price discrepancies and warranty issues, highlighting the areas in which consumers continue to face problems in relation to economic operators.

The data for September reflect broad activity by the CIMS aimed at overseeing compliance with legislation, identifying and addressing irregularities, as well as ensuring the protection of consumer rights. The increase in the number of consumer complaints also underscores the importance of informing and raising citizens’ awareness of their rights and ensuring compliance with legal obligations by economic operators.
