CIMS supervises medicine prices, fines imposed in Peja – inspections extend across Kosovo

The Central Inspectorate of Market Surveillance (CIMS), in cooperation with the Pharmaceutical Inspectorate, has intensified the supervision of medicine prices in pharmacies throughout the country.

Following complaints received from consumers regarding discrepancies between the price marked on the label and the price displayed at the checkout, CIMS has requested the assistance of pharmaceutical inspectors, with the aim of preventing price irregularities and protecting consumers from unfair commercial practices.

During the inspections carried out today in the Municipality of Peja, fines were also imposed on businesses where violations were identified.

Inspections will continue in the coming days through targeted actions in all regions of the Republic of Kosovo.

In cases where the price paid does not match the price displayed to the consumer, the relevant legal basis is Law No. 06/L-034 on Consumer Protection, specifically Article 26, paragraph 9, in conjunction with Article 137, paragraph 1, subparagraph 1.11.

These provisions establish the trader’s obligation to ensure that the price paid matches the price offered, as well as the applicable sanctions for identified violations. Under Article 137, paragraph 1, the fine for a legal entity may range from 1,000 to 10,000 euros.

Meanwhile, during this year alone, more than 20 complaints related to this issue have been submitted to the Department for Consumer Protection, showing an increasing trend compared with the same period last year.

The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation (MINTI), through CIMS, remains committed to protecting consumer rights and ensuring transparency in the market.

Consumers can submit their complaints via email at konsumatori@rks-gov.net or through the Viber platform at +383 (0) 46 311-000.
