Arbitration and investment climate, Minister Kusari-Lila presents MIETI reforms

The Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship , Trade and Innovation, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, participated in a discussion organized by the International Chamber of Commerce in Prishtina, dedicated to current developments in international arbitration and attended by legal professionals and business representatives.

Kusari-Lila emphasized that arbitration constitutes an important element of legal certainty and the investment climate by referring to her direct experience in an international arbitration process, in which the Republic of Kosovo emerged as the winer.

According to her, MIETI is working to strengthen legal certainty through a clearer and more functional legal and institutional framework. The Law on Arbitration sets out the basic rules for settling disputes through arbitration procedures, as well as for the recognition and enforcement of arbitration awards, while the Law on Sustainable Investments sets out the rights and obligations of institutions, public authorities and investors with regard to investments in the Republic of Kosovo.

The minister, within the framework of institutional reforms, announced that work is also being done on the implementation of the new Law on Business Organizations and the reform of the Business Registration Agency, with the aim of providing businesses with more efficient, clearer, and predictable services.

The discussion also highlighted the entry into force of the Kosovo-EFTA Free Trade Agreement on 1 October, which creates new opportunities for trade in goods and services with Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. In addition, within the framework of CEFTA, the ratification of Additional Protocols 5, 6 and 7 contributes to trade facilitation, the development of trade in services, and the strengthening of dispute settlement mechanisms.

These measures are aimed at creating a safer and more predictable environment for businesses and investors, facilitating market entry, business development, and expanding cooperation with international markets.
