CIMS intensifies its textile “action” – focusing on prices, discounts, and consumer abuses

As part of its work plan, the Central Inspectorate for Market Supervision (CIMS) has intensified inspections of textile shops, focusing on compliance with regulations regarding trade, products, and consumer protection.

The inspections cover business documentation, invoices and the origin of goods, pricing, garment labelling, product declarations, promotions and discounts, as well as terms of sale and product return policies.

Considering that citizens during September express an increased interest in buying clothes for the autumn season, while many businesses of textile sector develop promotional actions, CIMS deems necessary the intensification of inspections during the specific seasons of the year, aiming at protecting the customers from unjust practices and potential abuses.

Particular emphasis is being placed on price verification, specifically, whether products are clearly marked with prices and whether the price charged at the register matches the displayed price or the price advertised during promotional campaigns.

Inspections regarding business documentation, invoices, declarations, and pricing of textile products will also involve businesses engaged in online sales.

The Department for Consumer Protection receives daily complaints from citizens reporting discrepancies between the marked price and the price charged at the cash register. Consequently, any shortcomings or violations identified during inspections will be addressed in accordance with the punitive measures stipulated by the Law on the Central Inspectorate of Market Supervision.

Through regular inspections and targeted operations, CIMS assures consumers that all complaints will be addressed. Complaints can be submitted via the consumer platform on Viber at +383 (0) 46 311 000, as well as via email at konsumatori@rks-gov.net.
