Following the approval by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, on May 22, 2026, of the preliminary review for the expropriation of the socially-owned enterprises “Metaliku” and “Virxhinia”, the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation has taken the next step by conducting consultations with Gjakova businesses on the construction of the new Industrial Eco Park.
Over 50 businesses participated in the meeting held in Gjakova, where the investment plan that MIETI intends to implement in the “Metaliku” and “Virxhinia” areas was discussed, while special attention was paid to listening to the requests and needs of businesses.
During the meeting, businesses presented their demands mainly related to infrastructure, energy, common spaces and working conditions within the park. The goal is for the Eco Industrial Park in Gjakova to be built as a modern, efficient and sustainable space, in full harmony with environmental protection and with conditions that offer businesses security and opportunities for long-term development.
According to the foreseen plan, the “Metaliku” areas will focus mainly on the metal sector, the construction industry and similar industries, while the “Virxhinia” areas will be oriented towards the plastics industry, food packaging and other lighter industries. This combination aims to create an appropriate structure of manufacturing activities within the park.
The Eco Industrial Park will be designed with a shared business services center, efficient energy, solar panels with space for batteries, and a wastewater treatment plant. Existing spaces will be transformed and modernized in accordance with business needs and contemporary standards for the development of industrial parks.
The feasibility study is expected to begin in the fall, while the goal is that, after the completion of planning and agreement with the IFC, construction of the Eco Industrial Park in Gjakova will begin next year.
One of the important changes that the park’s functionalization is expected to bring is related to the security and long-term perspective of resident businesses. Through this project, businesses will be able to use the spaces for long-term periods, creating more stable conditions for the development of their activity, instead of operating through one-year contracts.
During her stay in Gjakova, the Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, also visited the premises of the enterprises “Virxhinia” and “Metaliku”, where she was informed about the current state of the infrastructure.
The transformation of these spaces from existing infrastructure into a modern industrial park aims to create more suitable environments for the development of businesses and manufacturing activities.
MIETI aims, in cooperation with Gjakova businesses, other local businesses and foreign investors, to develop this project as an investment that will contribute to the growth of the local economy, the creation of new jobs and the creation of modern conditions for businesses that will operate in these spaces.
