Following the report of the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) on the laboratory findings from the analyzed samples of dairy products, the Central Inspectorate of Market Surveillance (CIMS), in cooperation with FVA inspectors, has today started a coordinated action to inspect the declarations and labelling of dairy products in supermarket chains across the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
With the aim of protecting consumers, ensuring accurate information about food products, and strengthening market safety, the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade (MIETI) will intensify the surveillance of the dairy market, including both products produced in the Republic of Kosovo and imported products.
In accordance with the Law on Food and the Law on Consumer Protection, the inspections are focused on verifying the labelling, advertising, and presentation of products on the market, to assess whether they are in line with the results of the laboratory tests carried out by FVA.
To prevent misleading practices against consumers, MIETI calls on all companies whose products have been found not to comply with the declaration on the label to immediately take the necessary measures to correct the labelling and withdraw the products from the market.
Otherwise, based on their legal powers, CIMS and FVA will take administrative and punitive measures, including the temporary ban on the sale of products that do not meet the legal requirements.
Also, regarding the suspicions about the use of irrigation water in the production and processing of dairy products by a company in Kosovo, CIMS carried out an inspection today to assess compliance with the minimum technical requirements, in cooperation with officials from the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPHK) and officials from the Regional Water Company “Drini i Bardhë” Pejë.
During the inspection, water samples used in the production process were taken. These samples will undergo physical-chemical, microbiological, and metal presence laboratory analyses. After the analyses are completed and the official results are received, the competent institutions will take all necessary actions in accordance with the applicable legislation.
