The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation GmbH (GIZ) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), within the project ‘Entrepreneurship Promotion’, held the workshop for evaluation: studying the value chain on metal sector.
In this workshop that advances finalization of industry policies of the Republic of Kosovo, participants were the Minister of Industry, Enterprise and Trade, Rozeta Hajdari, the representative from the German Agency for International Cooperation, Edmond Gashi, the expert from German consulting company Anteja ECK (GIZ), Dr. Gerd Meier zu Köcker, representatives of governmental institutions, businesses and Kosovar associations.
Initially, Minister Hajdari said that Kurti Government with the "Work and Justice" program prioritizes the improvement of the competitiveness of enterprises, through the advancement of policies in the sector of industry, trade, investments, innovation, entrepreneurship, tourism, as well as the improvement of services in quality infrastructure, in such a way that our enterprises are as competitive as possible in the region and beyond.
"Cooperation with the business community and industrial sectors analyses will help development of this evidence-based strategy for sectors with potential for industrial development, job creation and export growth. We have drawn up value chain studies for: a) Wood industry, including carpentry, b) plastic industry, c) textile, clothing and leather industry and d) non-metallic mineral products industry. While with GIZ project we are finalizing studies for: a) metal industry, b) chemical industry and food and beverage processing industry," added Minister Hajdari.
In this context, Minister emphasized that integration of Kosovo's metal industry producers in the European and global supply chain will result in increasing export and employment and at the same time in increasing competitiveness of our local enterprises. She stated that digitalization of industrial processes and circular economy will affect the development of private sector, which enables the promotion of investments in the Republic of Kosovo.
MIET is drafting value chain studies for sub-sectors of manufacturing industry, aiming to identify their potential for development and their contribution to the economy of Kosovo, as well as obstacles faced by these sectors in the entire supply chain up to the final product. The sub-sector of fabricated metal products is one of sectors with potential, which with the number of enterprises and employment ranks first in the manufacturing industry, also contributes a significant percentage to the overall export.
