The Metrology Agency of Kosovo (MAK), within the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade (MIET), in close cooperation with the Traffic Police in the Republic of Kosovo, has started for the first time the supervision in the field of legal measuring instruments – tachographs.
Tachographs are devices used in regular vehicles, such as trucks, buses, and vans, to record and monitor various data about the use of the transport vehicles.
Mainly, tachographs are used to monitor the nap time of drivers in road transport, to increase road safety and to enforce laws and regulations regarding working and rest time for professional drivers.
During the supervision of these measuring tools, the verification of the documentation was done, as specified in the law on metrology and the relevant regulations for their implementation, with the aim of the correct use of the measuring tools which are subject to legal metrological control, specifically tachographs.
The purpose of supervision is to increase the safety of traffic participants, consumer protection, as well as the supervision of entities appointed (TVK) by MIET/MAK, for tachographs, which are assigned the tasks of implementing legal metrology regulations.
During the supervision, tachographs were encountered which did not possess a verification certificate, where administrative measures were taken according to the Law on Metrology.
MIET announces that if the irregularities found are not eliminated within the specified period, measures will be taken in accordance with the law in force.
The supervision of the verification of tachographs will continue in the following days, with the aim of increasing public safety in traffic as well as the protection of citizens, respectively travelers and all participants in traffic.
