The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation (MIETI), namely the Central Market Surveillance Inspectorate (CMSI), has imposed 18 fines on KEDS, in a total amount of EUR 90 thousand, because it was found that 18 verified meters had expired.
During April 2026, MIETI continued to verify consumer complaints regarding irregularities in electricity meters. The ad hoc committee, established specifically for this issue, received 574 complaints supported by evidence of deviations in time and date.
During this period of time, 54 electricity meters were withdrawn from consumers in 7 regions of the Republic of Kosovo, which were subjected to laboratory testing at the Kosovo Metrology Agency (KMA), where 38 of them were found to have time deviations, while 18 verified meters were found that their validity period had expired.
Consumer complaints, supported by evidence of time deviations, are being forwarded to KESCO, which is requesting immediate compensation for the affected consumers.
Official reports from the verification commission will also be submitted to the justice bodies as evidence for the development of the initiated investigative procedures.
MIETI assures the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo that during May it will continue to handle complaints, verify meters and impose fines, based on the relevant findings.
