Yesterday, the Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, Mrs. Rozeta Hajdari, introduced the Draft Law on the Register of Beneficial Owners, before the Parliamentary Committee for Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade.
Minister Hajdari, in front of the Committee, said that the Draft Law on the Register of Beneficial Owners aims to create, operate, administer the register of beneficial owners, determine the obligations of natural persons and obliged entities who register beneficial ownership information in the register and establish transparency of beneficial ownership, as well as the determine the punitive measures in case of non-compliance with the provisions of this law.
She emphasized that the creation of the register of beneficial owners will lead to the increase in the transparency of beneficial ownership and to the identification of beneficial owners, in order to discourage legal entities and potential future legal agreements whose purpose is to hide the identity of the individual and perform illegal activities in Kosovo.
Asking for the support of the MPs present, the Minister said that with the approval of this Draft Law, it will be possible to regulate a very important field, through the legal framework of which the Republic of Kosovo will join the group of countries that implement the high standards for the transparency of beneficial ownership and the fight against economic crimes.
This law is partially in accordance with the European Union Directive 2015/849 supplemented and amended by the European Union Directive 2018/843 of the European Parliament and of the European Council, dated May 30, 2018.
