Minister Hasani Announces a Good News for Citizens: Parliament Approves Draft Law on Consumer Protection

On the occasion of the International Consumers Day, the minister of Trade and Industry, Bajram Hasani, has talked to citizens and distributed leaflets in “Zahir Pajaziti” Square, in Pristina. Kosovo has marked this day with numerous activities.

Minister Hasani stated that the Assembly of Kosovo has made the first reading of the law on Consumer Protection, which law is being harmonized with EU legislation.  

"Today I would like to give a good news to the citizens of Kosovo, because today is 15th March the International Day of Consumer Protection, we just passed the draft law on consumer protection, furthermore, there was a law in place, and due to the fact we faced difficulties during its implementation, we were obliged to amend and replenish the existing one, " told Hasani to reporters.

Hasani stated that they worked very hard on consumers’ awareness, and will continue further to work on informative companies.   

This law, which we adopted the first reading today, protects the consumer's right and is very favorable, because it is fully harmonized with EU laws, and will applied in our country as well. Actually we are developing consumer’s awareness campaigns, showing that every citizen has the right to complain”, said Hasani.  

The minister said that we inspects the market in daily bases, and that many goods was disposed because there was not compatible.

"We take actions and make inspections, impose fines, but still we need additional information, and this can be achieved only if we have close cooperation with consumers, and not only by taking routine inspections by our side. By the end of 2017 we launched a sms campaign through which we informed citizens, and after this we received many complaints from consumers, which complains led to our investigations, and as outcome, and due to the cheating prices goods in amount of hundreds of thousands of euro were destroyed”, said Hasani.

Furthermore, during the day there were held other activities in regard to the International Consumers Day, such as a discussion with the parties of interest and information flyers were produced and distributed in the main square of Pristina.

Awareness campagna will be held during the next coming days in the main Kosovo cities, as: Pristina, Ferizaj, Gjilane, Mitrovica, Peja, Gjakova and Prizren.
