Minister Kusari-Lila emphasized that Kosovo and Turkey are two friendly countries and our strategic cooperation in the fields of security, diplomacy, economy and many other fields is expanding and strengthening with new collaborations.
The Minister indicated that trade exchanges between our two countries have increased, especially exports from Kosovo, but we still have work to do as imports continue to be significantly higher.
According to the Minister, this deficit on the part of Kosovo requires a new approach and more focus on developing production and attracting Turkish investments in the production sector.
Kusari-Lila mentioned that during the meeting they discussed the existing Free Trade Agreement, which in her capacity as Minister, in her first mandate, she has had the opportunity to sign in 2013.
She also added that considering that trade exchange in services has exponentially increased for Kosovo, we concluded that this Free Trade Agreement between the two countries should be expanded to include free trade in services, as well as to contribute to the balancing of trade exchanges between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Turkey.
The Minister announced that she and Minister Bolat discussed how to advance economic cooperation, especially through the joint JETCO commission, a commission formed to formalize cooperation between our two countries in the field of economy and trade.
The Minister also said that among the main areas of discussion for cooperation that were addressed were Technology and Industrial Parks.
The Minister once again emphasized that Kosovo has great potential, especially in human capital, therefore our cooperation should also expand to services, innovation and strategic investments.
