Minister of Trade and Industry, Endrit Shala, has imposed reciprocal measures on honey and potatoes of North Macedonia, because the latter is applying tariff barriers to products of the Republic of Kosovo.
Minister Shala stated that since June this year when the tariff barriers were set by the Republic of North Macedonia to the Kosovo product on the fish eggs, he has submitted complaints through CEFTA Secretariat and has also addressed a letter to the minister of economy, but they have not reflected.
“It has been more than two months and we have no answer, so I am obliged to protect the interest of Kosovo, Kosovar business and our products, therefore I am obliged to undertake other legal actions, according to the laws of the Republic of Kosovo. Today I have decided to impose reciprocal measures on North Macedonian products being imported into Kosovo and to ban the entry of certain products in order to force the State of North Macedonia to reflect and have equal treatment for Kosovo products that enter that state”, said Minister Shala.
The Minister stressed that there should be equal treatment, which, according to him, is the only way forward.
“Reciprocity, partnership and equal treatment of Kosovar products during export to regional countries is the only way forward. If this treatment continues, we will take other measures, not only to this state but also to other states. Now, no Kosovar products exported abroad will have unequal treatment,” said the minister.
Decision to banning the import of honey and potatoes from the Republic of North Macedonia
