Minister of Trade and Industry, Endrit Shala, has initiated the action for destroying the confiscated toys because they did not meet the standards. MTI delivered the samples of the toys for analysis in the Netherlands and results that were received were beyond normal standards, for this reason, Minister Shala has decided that all toys that are physically and chemically detrimental to our children will be destroyed.
Shala said that children will no longer be exposed to dangerous toys, because all imports that do not have quality certificates according to EU standards will not be allowed to enter the Kosovo market.
“Today I came to closely follow the last phase, the disposal of toys and through the media to send the message to all citizens of Kosovo that we have started market control and our children will not be exposed to dangerous toys. We are committed to have a detailed quality control of products in the Kosovo market. I want to inform you that until now we have confiscated 17 thousand units of dangerous toys, and in cooperation with Kosovo Customs we have stopped 17 imports at the border. Also, today I was informed by the Inspectorate that another amount has been forbidden, which has been attempted to be customs cleared and enter into the Kosovo market,"said Minister Shala.
According to the Minister of Trade and Industry, the focus will be consumer protection in relation to the quality of goods.
“My focus will be on consumer protection in relation to product quality, in addition to increasing inspections in the domestic market, we also in cooperation with Customs are preventing the introduction of any goods that could be dangerous for use by customer," said Minister Shala.
Minister has called upon all traders not to import goods in Kosovo that do not meet standards and could endanger children's health.
“I call on all traders to be careful of the products they import and sell to the Kosovo market, they must be certified and according to EU standards so that they do not endanger the health of children, "said Minister Shala.
