Minister Shala participates in Business Talks: My top priority, supporting local producers

Minister of Trade and Industry, Endrit Shala, by the invitation of the German-Kosovo Chamber of Commerce has been a speaker at the “Business Talks” platform, where he has talked with businesses, speaking about the main priority, which is the support of the producers and their empowerment.

Shala has emphasized that the absolute priority in his mandate has been, it is and will remain, the support of domestic production.

"I am deeply convinced that with a stable competitive private sector and quality productivity we can develop the economy, increase production and strengthen the state. MTI's decisions have directly affected our producer, our farmer and the economy of our country in general, therefore as a result of our decisions, we see the increase in the number of employees and the increase of production quality, "said Shala.

The minister also talked about foreign investments, mentioning the changes that were made in the Law on Strategic Investments that had an impact on raising the interest to invest in Kosovo.

"Moreover, I am very enthusiastic to tell you that we have already started implementing the law on strategic investment that came into force in 2017 and due to an administrative instruction that has been very difficult for business to complete, in 2018 businesses were not interested to invest. Upon taking over the duty, in October last year, I have initiated the procedures for changing this instruction that it came into force in January of this year. Since that time, we have 12 businesses that have applied or are in the process of applying. Only one have received the status of strategic investor "Sowi Kosovo LLC", which is planning to invest 169 million euros in wind energy, which is the biggest direct investment that has happened in Kosovo by a private investor, "said Shala.

Minister Shala also spoke to the attendees about the offer made to the German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen, which was highly appreciated by the attendees, as the first case that a minister takes concrete steps to invite foreign investors.

Also, Shala has mentioned the fact that Germany is the main economic partner of Kosovo and the cooperation will also continue through the German-Kosovo Chamber of Commerce.
