Minister Shala: The time has passed when Kosovo citizens have consumed products without control

Minister of Trade and Industry, Endrit Shala, together with the Inspectorate went to inspect food sales points for verification and control, in the area covered by MTI.

Due to the transparency, the minister has left it in the hands of media to choose the sale points for carrying out the inspections.

"After many concerns from citizens, media and MPs stating that in the Kosovo market, even after imposing of the 100% tax, the products from these two countries are still in circulation, today I have decided to undertake extraordinary inspections and leave it to the journalists to select the points of Inspection. The food sale points shall be inspected aiming to avoid any doubt that potentially in the market may be found contraband goods. So far, we have carried out more than 1000 inspections and have not found cases with which we can conclude that there are goods in violation with the laws in force, "said Minister Shala.

Shala stressed that after the on-site inspections, selected by media, the companies were asked to bring the documents of products originating from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to prove whether they are legally legitimate.

The minister has said that in the coming weeks the inspection will continue to other operators too.

"We have inspected three sales points in the Municipality of Prishtina, selected by the media, aiming to implement the Law on Consumer Protection, the Administrative Instruction on the Placements of Flags of Origin and at the same time to control products with 100 percent measure. As you know, we asked the companies to provide us with the documentation for the products coming from Serbia and Bosnia. As well, we have seen a commitment by the commercial companies for placing the flags of the country of origin. We have faced some problems, in which cases the law has not been respected therefore, the inspectorate will take measures according to the law. These kinds of inspections will permanently continue even in other business associations such as sale points of fuel, and for these controls we will decide together. All this is done to protect the consumer, "said Minister Shala.
