The workshop was attended by representatives of the Government, Higher Education Institutions, Business Community and representatives of international development cooperation in Kosovo.
The Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, in addition to policies, structural reforms and supporting instruments for the development of fair, adaptable and competitive business, aims to address the challenges faced by the manufacturing sector in the country, including the lack of qualified workforce and the demand for technical and managerial profiles.
In this workshop, the findings of the comprehensive analysis of skills gaps in the labour market in the industrial sector of Kosovo were presented, providing an overview of the challenges and opportunities for the development of this key sector for the country's economy.
The report shows that a significant percentage of businesses in Kosovo face great difficulties in finding qualified work force, especially in technical and managerial professions. Most of the surveyed companies, among others, reported that the lack of adequate and qualified workforce remains a major obstacle to further development. The industrial sector in Kosovo is dominated by micro and small enterprises, where the majority of employees have a secondary level of education, suggesting a significant lack of advanced expertise and specialized skills.
The findings of this comprehensive study are intended to inform policy making in the field of education and professional training, as well as the construction of support mechanisms for enterprises in the priority industrial sectors according to the Industrial Policy 2030, in order to fulfill the needs for workforce. Further, this study produces the common recommendations for reforms and interventions, which help to improve the framework of national qualifications to ensure long-term competitiveness for enterprises operating in the industry.
The Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Trade, in accordance with the government's priorities for sustainable economic development, continues to create platforms and infrastructure that will contribute to the interconnection of the necessary qualifications in accordance with the requirements of the labour market, in order to guarantee the widest possible inclusion of different social groups, as a prerequisite for further development and socio-economic prosperity in our country.
