The Industrial Property Agency (IPA), within the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, issued 1,747 decisions on trademark registration during the January–September 2026 period, marking an increase of 29.22% compared to the figure reported for 2025. During this period, 1,794 successful absolute examinations were also carried out, representing an increase of 8.86%, while 20 industrial designs were registered and one decision on the granting of a patent was issued.
The improvement in procedures has also been reflected in registration time. For trademark M-37968, the entire procedure was completed within 226 days, or approximately 7 months, including the statutory three-month opposition period. This is the shortest timeframe achieved to date and is 116 days, or approximately 34%, shorter than the comparable case in 2024.
Regarding the receipt of applications, IPA recorded 1,773 trademark applications, of which 682 were domestic. Compared to the 2025 data, trademark applications increased by 5.54%, while domestic applications increased by 7.57%. Together with 46 applications for industrial designs and 14 for patents, the total number reached 1,833 applications.
An important development is the modernization of services through the transition to IPAS 4.0, the launch of the new official website and the operationalization of the Electronic Register through WIPO Publish, with 45,858 records accessible for public searches. These developments facilitate access to information and establish the technical basis for online applications and integration with e-Kosova.
In international cooperation, IPA has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Austrian Patent Office, enabling searches and professional opinions for assessing the patentability of inventions, as well as staff training. The Agency is also an active partner in the EU4IP project for the 2026–2028 period, while consultations for the Swiss PartnershIP – Kosovo Programme have advanced.
During the reporting period, 9 Official Bulletins were published, containing 5,104 industrial property objects. The Agency’s revenues reached EUR 291,425.27, or 4.67% more than in the same period of 2025.
In promoting intellectual property, IPA carried out educational and awareness-raising activities with young people, students, start-ups and businesses, in cooperation with Kosovo Customs, the Copyright Office, STIKK and VentureUP. Activities in schools, higher education institutions, BONEVET and Tech Park Prishtina addressed the protection of ideas and innovation, trademark registration and the fight against counterfeit products. Through forums and regional meetings with businesses, the Agency encouraged the protection of their identity and the use of industrial property rights.
IPA will continue its efforts to ensure more efficient procedures, more accessible services and better support for businesses, innovators and inventors in Kosovo.
