The Ministry of Trade and Industry in order to continue the protection of local production, which is a priority, and after an investigation made by the respective department, Minister of Trade and Industry Bajram Hasani has taken safeguard measures for milk, based on legal competencies in accordance with Article 1 and paragraph 1 of Article 2 of Law no. 041 / L-047, as well as the relevant provisions of the CEFTA Agreement.
The decision came after an investigation is made and is proved that imports from Bosnia and Herzegovina are increased more than 20 percent, concretely the dairy products imported from Bosnia and Herzegovina has affected domestic products due to their low import price, which is under the cost of domestic dairy products.
As provided by Article 8 of the law on safeguards measures on imports, that there are sufficient grounds to determine that the surge in imports, and the conditions under such imports are taking place, threaten to cause serious injury to domestic producers of similar products.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry is entitled, on the basis of sufficient evidence, to apply the law to protect domestic dairy producers when threatened to suffer serious injury from milk imports originating in Bosnia and Herzegovina
These protective measures affect thousands of milk producers and processors operating in the Kosovo market.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry will continue with safeguard measures for domestic producers, whenever is proven that there exists a legal base.
The safeguard measure affects about 3,000 farmers who have farms with 5 to 250 cows and over 30 dairy farmers.
