The Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, Rozeta Hajdari, together with MIET colleagues, received yesterday at a meeting the GET (German Economic Team) experts, supported by the German government, with whom they discussed the findings from the performance evaluation of the current economic zones, identifying significant constraints in many dimensions, which play a critical role for the success of these economic zones.
The performance of economic zones in Kosovo, in terms of attracting investors and generating jobs, has been low so far. These areas were created on an 'ad-hoc' basis and without an underlying strategic approach. All current economic zones have the character of basic infrastructure zones, constricted service portfolio (mainly maintenance), with a low level of industrial specialization and limited attractiveness for foreign investors.
With the identification of reform options for economic zones in Kosovo and the drafting of the strategic document and the new advanced law on industrial parks, we will shift the focus from the multi-activity economic zones without areal management to specialized industrial parks, green industrial parks and technology and innovation parks, based on the clearly defined key selection and performance measurement indicators.
According to the new reforms, the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade aims at:
– Triggering investments
– Promoting advanced technologies, production and processing activities, innovation and value-added services
– Enhancing employment and training
– Facilitating cooperation between businesses and
– Increasing competition and exports
