This law does not provide for permanent measures, but rather temporary interventions and only in special cases, focusing on a clear list of essential products.
The new draft law fully reflects the observations of the Constitutional Court, addressing the previously established discrepancies with Articles 7, 10 and 119 of the Constitution.
The law determines two main intervention mechanisms:
• Setting the trade margin for wholesale and retail sales
• Setting the maximum allowed price for basic products
For the first time, it is also foreseen the establishment of an independent board for temporary measures for price regulation, which is proposed by the Government, approved by the Assembly and reports directly to the Assembly, guaranteeing full transparency and accountability.
The fundamental purpose of this draft law is consumer protection at a time when prices are changing at a rapid pace and often unaffordable for citizens.
This is a decisive step towards a fairer market and a state that stands by its citizens.
