The company with Kosovo-German capital “Solar Kosova 20-20” is the first investor to submit application for gaining strategic investor status, according to the Law on Strategic Investments.
This project, which is in the field of renewable energy, amounts to 130 million euros and will be implemented by 2021.
The minister of Trade and Industry, Bajram Hasani, said that it is an important day for the Government of Kosovo, as the Law on Strategic Investment is being implemented.
Hasani has stated that it is with interest to Kosovo, as this project will employ over 500 workers.
"Today we have received the first application after hard work we have done with our mandate to bring in life the Law on Strategic Investments. Of course, this is an important day for the Government of Kosovo since we received the first application of strategic investor status. According to the project submitted by the 'Jaha Group', the alternative power company, which has a 150 megawatt output capacity and 20 megawatts storage batteries. This project amounts about 130 million euros. The implementation of this project according to the projection is foreseen to be completed in 2021. Our interest is to increase the employment, and this project will recruit over 500 workers. This company is supported from German partners, since the company owner is a German citizen, and he is fom the Kosovo diaspora, "Hasani pointed out at a press conference.
Hasani in this occasion invited foreign and local investors to apply, since according to him, the law offers very good opportunities.
"Once again, we call on investors to apply and use this opportunity that Kosovo offers for foreign and domestic businesses, so they can advance their production and generates new jobs. It is an amazing opportunity offered by Kosovo," said Minister Hasani.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Diaspora and Strategic Investment, Dardan Gashi, said that all Administrative Instructions and Regulations are in place so that today we received the first application according to this law.
Gashi said that a great job is made thanks to minister Hasani and KIESA for enforcement of this law.
"It is a great pleasure that today we are accepting the first application based to the Law on Strategic Investments. More than a year has passed since the law is being approved by parliament and the government, after a great job have done the minister Bajram Hasani and his team and KIESA. All administrative instructions and regulations have been completed, so that today we have the opportunity to reactive and accept the first application according to this law. The other important thing is that the first company that is applying is a local company with foreign capital, which is a local consortium and is of a special importance because the project deals with renewable energy, solar energy, this kind of project is the first one in Kosovo, "said Gashi.
The investor who took the first application, Mr. Fadil Hoxha, said that the goal of their consortium is to develop a specific industry in Kosovo, promising that it will not be their last application.
Hoxha has also called on other investors to apply and use the opportunities that offers this law.
"We, as investors are very happy that has come the day that our country has created very good conditions for investments. We are producers of solar panels and our factory has Kosovo-German join- capital. The project or concept we have submitted today is the consortium of local companies. The company that will lead this project is 'Solar Kosova 20-20'. Our goal is to develop a specific industry other than states around. With such a project we realize something specific to our country and I can say that we will be the leaders of this industry in our country and beyond. I would like to congratulate Minister Hasani and Deputy Prime Minister Gashi and all of Kosovo. I believe, and I can vow that it will not be the first time and the only, to apply this year as a strategic investor and together with the German Chamber we are interested to apply again based to this law, and I could say that our government will have a lot of work this year, and 2018 will be marked as the year of strategic investments”, said Hoxha.
Representative of the Kosovar-German Chamber of Commerce, Nora Hasani, said that it is important to encourage other partners as well while the implementation of this project happens, which process according to her, is very good opportunity to test the law.
"It is worth to mention that the first applicant is the German Chamber president and this is good news for our country. For us it is important during project implementation will be encouraged other very well-known partners and institutions, and German banks will finance it. This is a good opportunity to test the law, also this is a story can be marked as a success story, because through this kind of investments will be crated new jobs, "she said.
