Representatives from the Department of Tourism and the Cabinet of the Minister of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) held a virtual meeting with UNDP representatives, where they discussed about the project “Assistance for Trade”, which provides support and capacity building in tourism development.
During the meeting it has been discussed about the profile of the Tourism Sector and capacity building in the creation of tourism policies by tourism staff, as well as the reorganization of the tourism department.
With special emphasis it has been analysed the development of human resources in the tourism sector.
Present at this meeting was also Albert Maxhuni, Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of MTI, who announced that MTI has drafted plans and projects that have supported the local level in the development of tourism and in the advancement and promotion of tourism products.
"The Ministry of Trade and Industry, taking into account the losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the tourism sector, has taken several measures to support this sector, starting from the reduction of VAT from 16% to 8%, and the inclusion of some measures in the Economic Recovery Package, which will support this sector ", announced Maxhuni.
He stressed that the Ministry of Trade and Industry is also drafting the tourism Strategy, which provides for environmental protection, sustainable tourism development and eco-tourism.
