The Consumer Protection Department that operates under the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), on the occasion of marking the World Consumer Day has organized a roundtable with topic the “Draft Law on Consumer Protection”.
Head of Consumer Protection Department in MTI, Njazi Shala, spoked about the International Consumer symbolic that this day for the first time has gained its importance and the inspiration from a speech made by the former President of the United States John Kennedy, made exactly 55 years ago, on 15th of March 1962.
"In this way, for the first time globally is raised awareness on consumers’ rights, and celebration of this Anniversary Day which actively has started to be marked through mobilization, known as a phenomenon since 1983," said Mr. Shala.
He further said that the Consumer Protection Department in MTI, always is in close coordination with the Consumer Protection Council, and always gathers their efforts to organize together marking of this day.
During his speech, Mr. Shala said that is increased the number of consumers complainers, making known that in 2016 are made 250 complaints, and during the first two months of this year have been submitted around 60 of them.
Agron Maxhunaj, MTI’s Acting General Secretary said that there are three pillars on consumers’ safety, citing consumer health, safety and protection of consumer rights.
Maxhuni pointed out that there is a considerable number of consumer complaints, mainly on product quality and other concerns for what they have the right to address their warries.
“We are working with civil society organizations to set coordination among the government and civil society. We have 30 law that directly affect the consumers, and very soon these laws will be in service to citizens,” said Maxhuni.
Selatin Kaçaniku from the Consumer organization said that the draft law on consumer protection will be proceeded in Parliament on 31st of March.
The draft law in regard to consumer protection is an example what a country can establish. This draft law will be submitted to the parliament on 31st of March”, said Mr. Kaçaniku, and spooked about the importance and responsibilities of institutions toward consumer rights protection services.
