The Kosovo Metrology Agency, which operates under the umbrella of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, has marked the World Metrology Day with several activities.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Vesel Krasniqi, in his speech on this day said that Metrology is part of the quality infrastructure, along with standardization and accreditation, and as such constitutes an important link in the functioning of this infrastructure.
According to the Minister, the impact of metrology on a country's trade and industry is tremendous, and it is counted as a barometer to assess a country's development as well as to assess a country's capacity and opportunities to strengthen the economy.
"We are aware that the Kosovo Metrology Agency has a constant need for support in terms of strengthening the metrology and complete quality infrastructure, as well as in fulfilling legal and constitutional obligations, such as consumer protection, support of local products and service companies, as well as creating opportunities for increasing exports that the Republic of Kosovo makes to other countries ", said the Minister.
Whereas, the Chief Executive Officer of the Metrology Agency, Ferki Fejza, said that special interest has been paid to the advancement of KMA laboratories in increasing standards of measurement by providing laboratory calibrations and cross-comparisons with the support of the FMG 2 project (For Free Movement of Goods ), as well as the preparations for the start of the accreditation process of the laboratories operating within the Department of Scientific and Industrial Metrology, within the KMA.
"During this time we have held a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with directors of sister agencies in the region and with EU countries, from which we have received concrete support and requests for cooperation to build capacities and exchange experiences. In view of this, it is expected that some memorandums of understanding will be signed soon with some of the countries in the region and the EU, as well as the renewal of the memorandums with Albania and Turkey ", said Fejza.
On the other hand, Endrit Shala, Member of the Assembly of Kosovo and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Employment, Trade and Industry said that the Metrology Agency is one of the most important links in a country's economy.
"Metrology is one of the most important links of a country that aims at economic development and business empowerment. Metrology is also an agency that protects the rights of consumers and local producers. As chairman of the parliamentary committee, I will support you to advance the work you have and I promise that I will give all my contribution to strengthen the quality infrastructure for harmonizing the laws with that of the EU ", said the deputy.
