Verification of measuring instruments: a necessity for consumer protection

The Ministry of Industry, Trade, Industry and Innovation (MINTI), through the Kosovo Metrology Agency (KMA), is continuing the inter-institutional cooperation plan in order to protect consumers’ interests and rights.

Today, in the Municipality of Gjakova, the representatives of KMA, together with the political advisers of Minister Mimoza Kusari-Lila, visited the RWC “Gjakova” and the Public Enterprise “City Heating Company”.

During the meetings with the heads of the two enterprises—Mr. Hasan Krasniqi of RWC “Gjakova” and Mr. Blerim Halilaj of the “City Heating Company”—discussions focused on institutional coordination regarding the verification of water and thermal energy meters, with the aim of ensuring accurate measurements and preventing any potential detriment to consumers.

RWC “Gjakova” supplies water to over 54 thousand families and institutions, whereas the “City Heating Company” provides heating services to over 700 consumers.

For RWC “Gjakova” the possibility of reactivating the laboratory for the preparation, servicing, and testing of water meters will be considered, while for the “City Heating Company” the possibility of extending the validity period of thermal energy meters will be examined, in accordance with European Union standards and practices.

This cooperation aims to ensure accurate metering, transparency in billing, and greater protection for consumers receiving services from public enterprises.
